Georgia State has a football team? Georgia State has a football team!

Georgia State is a mostly commuter school located in downtown Atlanta with just over 30,000 students. This year Georgia State will play in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), formerly known as Division I-AA, for the first time in school history. Former Alabama and Georgia Tech Head Coach Bill Curry was hired on June 11th of 2008 to start up the Georgia State program from scratch. In August of 2009 the first Georgia State football players arrived on campus. This year the spring roster includes 71 players. They signed 27 players to scholarship in the 2009 recruiting class and the rest of the group is comprised of 6 transfers and walk-ons. They also landed 23 players in the most recent recruiting class. GSU will play 7 home games this year at the Georgia Dome and also scheduled a game in November with defending National Champion Alabama.

Coaches

GSU's offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach is John Bond. He has been OC at Army, Northern Illinois (when they had Garrett Wolfe) and Georgia Tech for one year (when they had Tashard Choice). On the defensive side of the football the DC is former East Carolina coach John Thompson. Thompson also worked with Curry at Alabama in 1987 and has been coaching football for over 20 years.

Spring Scrimmage

On April 10th the Georgia State football team held an open scrimmage for more than 3,000 fans. There are three Redshirt Freshman Quarterbacks fighting for the starting job. Keltan Hill (a rivals ** recruit from Lithia Springs) went 8 of 14 for 111 yards and 2 TDs. Bo Schlechter (a rivals ** recruit from Belle Glade Florida) went 5 for 8 for 101 yards and a rushing TD. Drew Little (a rivals ** recruit from Henry County) was 6 of 12 for 71 yards. Curry says that he will not announce a starter until they are ready to play games and that they will need all three of these guys to win football games this year. Redshirt Junior Wide Receiver Sidney Hayes (a UCF transfer and former scout.com *** recruit) made some noise with a 54 yard TD pass and totaled 3 receptions for 87 yards. Redshirt Freshman Jordan Giles (a ** rivals recruit from Columbia, South Carolina) was the leading receiver with 5 catches. Redshirt Sophmore TE Emmanuel Ogbuehi also had a productive game with 3 catches and a TD. The top RBs were RS Sophomore Roosevelt Watson (a ** rivals recruit from Lake Worth Florida) and RS Sophmore Malcom Smith.Watson rushed 6 times for 43 yards and Smith ran 6 times for 33 yards and a TD.

On the defensive side of the football the stand-outs were RS Freshman LB Robert Ferguson (a ** rivals recruit from Belle Glade Florida), Junior LB Olufemi Opanubi (a transfer from West Los Angeles College in Culver City, California) and RS Freshman DE Austen Wiley. Ferguson and Opanubi both had interceptions and Wiley had a fumble recovery and 2 sacks.

In August Georgia State will have their full squad and then it's 29 more practices until they play their first game against Shorter College. I think it's safe to say that this will be an interesting ride. If you want more information on GSU Football, Mr College Football (Tony Barnhardt) wrote a column this week about Bill Curry, ESPN the Magazine did some really interesting stuff with Billy Curry and the Georgia State program and you can follow GSU Football at this link.

The Good , The Bad And The Ugly

Many Egyptians watched Christiane Amanpour's show last Wednesday and its re-run yesterday , they watched the famous former CNN correspondent for the first time in order to see that confrontation that did not take place directly between Mohamed ElBaradei and Ahmed Ezz. Today the media whether pro-regime or against is and will speak about it and they have to for the coming weeks.
The show aired a report by Ben Wedeman about Egypt and its unknown future after Mubarak , a short report but informative for the foreign viewers who do not know what is happening in the valley of the Nile. Gamila Ismail and Mohamed Kamal appeared in the report representing the opposition and the regime respectively.
The media in Egypt is insisting that it was a confrontation where as the two men did not confront each other ,ElBaradei spoke first and then Ahmed Ezz had his turn. Of course Ezz thought that he were on Arabic channel and demanded to fire back at ElBaradei but thank Goodness she stopped him. It was indirect confrontation to be accurate. Later in the show Amanpour hosted Saad El-Din Ibrahim.
The Good

The Good
ElBaradei said what he has always saying , some people say that it is bad but I believe it is good because it proves his persistence and also consistency on his political views . It is noticeable that the Egyptian media up to this moment was focusing on what Ahmed Ezz said in the show more what ElBaradei had said despite I believe  ElBaradei said very powerful words that should be highlighted if not to be remembered later
The Military is part of the people and the military is witnessing Egypt is not in the best shape
Amanpour as a professional reporter knows what question she should ask her guest in order not to waste the time of the viewer and thus we found her asking the forbidden question about the army and intelligence support. I am not surprised that no one paid attention to ElBaradei's wonderful answer because in general the military institutions are the big taboo which no one does not talk about except in those limits of 'Egypt is a military army and the army will not accept Gamal Mubarak' and 'Soliman has a better chance because he is from the army' beside of course the dream/nightmare for some that we would have a coup , still no one dared to wonder where the army is from all misery the country is suffering from !!??
The Bad
The Bad
Dr. Saad El-Din Ibrahim with my all due respect is insisting that the States should help us despite the fact he knows very well that to have a real change it must come from inside not outside. The Bush experience was awful and the American administration then was not sincere , we all know that the Bush administration agenda was like a blackmail paper against the Mubarak regime in order to approve its invasion to Iraq and the use of Suez Canal. Dr. Ibrahim's intentions are good but he is insisting on bad ways by gambling on the foreign regimes to help us. Dr. Ibrahim also spoke about the peaceful revolution taking Gandhi and MLK as examples. I will talk about this peaceful revolution thing insh Allah separately.
The ugly
The ugly
Heavens forbid I do not speak about how he looks but I am speaking about his idea , the ugly ideas of Ahmed Ezz.I believe the arrogance of the regime or the NDP made it choose Ahmed Ezz to speak on behalf of it in a show that is being followed by millions worldwide to stand against Mohamed ElBaradei. This is the third televised interview for Ahmed Ezz as a politician after 10 PM and Cairo Today in Egypt by the way and despite the huge difference between Amanpour's show and these two shows Ezz acted as if he were speaking on an Egyptian or Arabic screen. The same arrogance, the same ignorance if I may say and the same separation from reality  we used to see from the regime men especially from men like Ahmed Ezlz was seen last Wednesday worldwide on air.
Judging from his body language and his intimidating looks ,it seems that he was worried and he had to be worried :
a) because this is not a segment prepared by his PR department in his group
b)because this is Christiane Amanpour not Amr Adib or his wife or Mona El-Shazely
c)because he knows Mohamed ElBaradei is more credible abroad than the regime and the party he presents ,after all the Western or the American viewer knows Mohamed ElBaradei but does not know Ahmed Ezz.
Ezz was in a defensive position since the start of his segment even though Amanpour did not put him in a corner yet , he started his segment asking her to give him a chance to reply on Dr. ElBaradei's arguments. Also insisting to call Amanpour by her first name whenever she asked him was so interesting to me , as if he was making statement to her not to the viewers.
Fortunately to our luck Ezz shared the world with his ugly views on democracy and ElBaradei showing a glimpse on what we suffer from on a daily basis to all people around the world. Ezz thought that he was talking to the American viewers only and that the American viewer along with the American administration will be very afraid from ElBaradei when he says in less than 10 minutes : Leftists, Muslim brotherhood,  Ahmadinajed, Hezbollah and patriot act !!
Ezz thinks that when he says the words of terror , the Americans will be very frightened from any democratic reform in Egypt , this may have worked if he had appeared in Fox and friends or Glenn Beck show on Fox channel not on CNN for God sake !!
Ezz arrogantly is barging in front of the whole on how the NDP is generously giving freedom and basic democratic rights as if they were grants and this shows you how arrogant this man is.
The best thing in his segment is how Amanpour said "Oh my God" when he revealed that the Egyptian regime will stop using its patriot act aka emergency law when peace prevails in the Middle East !!!!!!!!!!!
Here is a short summary for the show in Amanpour's blog in CNN. You can watch below :
Here is the part of Dr.ElBaradei with Arabic subtitles.
There are many comments on the show in a very short time , of course most of these comments as I hinted before like Amr Adib for instance and Ibrahim Eissa who presented different point of views as usual.

Ketermaya,Street Justice Is Really Blind "NSFW"

Lebanese angry mob have killed a suspect of murder in the streets of Ketermaya ; an act recorded by video and photos that found their way in to the internet. I read about the terrible murder itself before and I was shocked with its gruesome detail : Two grandparents with their two grandchildren have been murdered in their house.

The crime is terrible by all measure as you can see without going in to further details. The Lebanese Police arrested a suspect in the murder , their 38 years old neighbor after 24 hours. After few hours of his arrest , the people of Ketermaya attacked and took the suspect while re-enactment of the terrible crime in to a quick public trial that made its sentence even without any further investigation or waiting for the DNA results. The angry locals of Ketermaya stubbed him to death then dragged his dead naked body through through out the town before hanging it in the center of the town.

Many people believe that he deserved it for what he had done , but what if he were innocent !!?? Yes the DNA results came proving that the suspect was actually the murderer but what if the results proving his innocence and not his guilt !!? We got that infamous incident Egyptian in Kuwait who was proved to be innocent after confessing under torture that he killed a Pakistani girl who is already alive !!!??

There is a huge debate currently in Lebanon about what happened in Ketermaya , that law of the vigilance means there is no trust in the state nor in the law and this is why the people take their rights by their own hands.

Unfortunately we saw and had several our own Ketermaya incidents in a way or another and here I am not speaking about  Upper Egypt but other parts of Egypt where we find people turned in to vigilantes implementing the law by their own hands , becoming the prosecutor, the judge and the executor themselves without realizing that they are playing a role they should not play. The only reason we have our own Egyptian Ketermaya incidents in Egypt is simply people do not trust or believe the state any more. People had enough from long legal procedures not to mention their own feeling that the police is not doing its job to protect them in their houses ; this is why we notice increasing vigilance actions in the Egyptian cities nowadays.

A side detail that does not matter , that murderer who killed four innocent people was unfortunately Egyptian. It is a side detail because monsters do not have nationalities. Already I believe if that crime had happened in Egypt in a town outside Cairo like in Upper Egypt or Delta , the same end would have happened if the police had not been stronger and powerful.

Here are couple of photos and videos from Ketermaya , huge warning as they are extremely graphic "NSFW"

From AP :

From Videos on YouTube "Extremely graphic" and there are even more graphic content there but I just could not post it here.

From LBC News
Hanging at the down center

The Question in mind now : What if he were innocent !!?? I do not care if he was Egyptian or not but what if he were innocent !!?

All those people participated in this parade should ask themselves this question.

By the way I think our media should stop this dirty game of "Egypt first" because the man according to the DNA was the real murderer of this poor family. Also I hope those few dear Arab brothers keep their feelings towards us to themselves.

Mark Richt Conference Call Notes

Hat Tip to Team Speed Kills for passing on the link to the SEC coaches teleconferences at al.com. Here are my notes from the call with Coach Mark Richt.

- Richt loves Todd Grantham's experience (coached with Beamer, Saban, Crennell). Has a great wealth of knowledge and football IQ. He is a great communicator, has a strong presence and a high level of energy and intensity.

- Logan Gray wants to play and right now he's not sure that he can. Richt has made it clear that they have a post-spring depth chart but they have not named any starters including QB. He is trying to decide where he wants to be and what position he wants to play. If he wants to be at Georgia, Richt will work with him on what position he plays. This type of thing happens a lot more than anybody knows. We are certainly a better team with him then without him. There is no time table for his decision. With or without Logan there will be a tremendous amount of inexperience at the QB position.

- Has always wanted to recruit Georgia first butometimes in the past they've gone out of state first. During these first two weeks they are going to hammer Georgia and do it in mass numbers. They must recruit out of state but if they go out of state the recruit better be special.

- Trintan Strudivant is expected to be ready by pre-season. He has been making very good progress. Feels like this repair feels different and better to him. They will take their time with him to make sure he is healthy.

- AJ Green is one of the best players in the country and if he can help them win in an area then they should look at it. Richt would not be against him returning kicks if it will help them win. He's not worried about injuries, he could get hurt trying to catch a ball as a receiver. If he's the best at that skill then they will use him for that.

- Richt sees Conference expansion as doubtful but hasn't really read up on it. He would be surprised if it happened any time soon. Thinks the format with 6 teams on each side and the Championship Game is a great format. If you expand you don't get to play everybody and it's almost like two different leagues.

- Lost some outstanding players on the interior defensive line. Personnel wise feels they have some pretty good players they are counting on to step up. The defense is brand new but there are a bunch of good players. There is some difference in what is expected in guys in the 3-4. Guys like Justin Houston and Cornelius Washington will do more in pass coverage whereas they were primarily pass rushers last year.

- Escalating assistant coaching salaries are the way things are going. It's the market. Has no problem with the escalating salaries due to revenues brought in by SEC football and the pressure on the coaches.

Now The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Is Speaking !!

In a first reaction since the story found its way to mainstream international media , the ministry of foreign affairs and the Ambassador of Egypt  in Nigeria denied any knowledge with that Nigerian senator who may have married a 13 years old Egyptian girl breaking the laws of both Egypt and Nigeria !!  Our Ambassador stated that the embassy did not involve in that matter because that was an internal political issue in Nigeria and that this was the elections season there and that could be a rumor against the senate !!!

If you think that this is bad then you must hear what Dr.Mohammed Saber , the press and information officer at our embassy in Aubja said to Nigerian This Day Online :

We cannot take the girl away from where she is because no one has reported anything to us

Reactive as usual , so the embassy is not interested except if someone reports to them !! The senator and the girl's family could have broken the Egyptian law and they will stand still !! come on could not do they send the wife of the ambassador to meet the bride to know the truth !!??

As expected Egyptians should wonder if their ministry of foreign affairs and our ambassador should have kept silent in this tempest !!

From his side the Nigerian senator has denied that he married a 13 years old girl yet he did not reveal any more details about his Egyptian wife whether her age or how they were married.

Suzanne Mubarak , the first lady of Egypt has expressed her refusal for underage marriage and I believe that she worked hard along with minister Moshira Khateb to pass a law in the parliament against underage marriage.

Another thing I hate to say it but I believe I was the first one to brought up this issue in the Egyptian blogosphere thanks to a blogger friend in Germany still no one spoke about it except when BBC thankfully reported the matter , I do not say that Egyptian bloggers and journalists should follow my blog heavens forbid but I am speaking about a matter we should be keen about.

I do not care if he is a senator who claims to be the defender of Sharia where as he divorces women as he wants or not , I care for our law , I care for our people and for our girls.

Despite my disgust and hate to the Nasserite era , I wonder if this can happen during that era !!

Scouting the UGA QBs

The University of Georgia went into spring practice with 3 QBs fighting it out for the starting job and a 4th QB on the way in the fall. At a minimum the depth at this position looked good for Georgia. Zach Mettenberger was dismissed from the team and now Logan Gray is contemplating a transfer and it's left the Bulldog faithful in a quandary. Georgia is one decision away from being left with two scholarship QBs this fall and both of them being freshmen. Georgia is one transfer and one injury away from playing in the SEC with a true freshman who did not enroll early and is one more injury away from playing with a walk-on or a defensive back at QB. With that in mind I thought I would dig into finding out more information about who could (worst case scenario included...well not really that would include Bacarri Rambo or Branden Smith) see some playing time at QB for Georgia this year. There is a lot of information out there on Hutson Mason. But not that much information on Greg Bingham and Parker Welch.

Is This A New Policy You Will Adopt !!??

I hope that the sentence will not affect our relations with Hezbollah

Ahmed Abu El-Gait

28th of April 2010

This is how Ahmed Abu El-Gait our foreign minister commented on the court's sentence in the so-called Hezbollah trial cell. So now we have relations with Hezbollah !!?? Where were these relations last year when our regime used its media and its allies from the gulf to the ocean to attack Hezbollah !!

In fact just from few hours ago Ahmed Ezz of NDP and one of the brains of NDP has just attacked Hezbollah and spoke about negatively on CNN !!??

I know that this is politics and clearly the Egyptian regime is getting closer to the Syrian regime again after taking a green light from the States or may by it is just a game the Egyptian regime playing with the States reminding the Americans that Egypt can return to that front concerning the succession and democratic reforms back in Cairo !!??

Anyhow I do not understand why Abu El-Gait suddenly admits that we have relations with Hezbollah !!??  This is an official recognition for Hezbollah in Egypt as far as I could tell.

May be I am missing something !!??

The Revolt of Necropolis

This is the result of appointing governors who do not know or understand or even care for the societies they will govern !! Most probably this will make headlines abroad after being twisted !!

Without any introduction the city of Akhmim  in Sohag has seen a huge revolt if I may describe it when thousands "Some say 15,000" attacked everything represented the government including the security forces in the Upper Egyptian city. Of course the security forces had to defend themselves in the most expected way : Using tear gas bombs , ironically the security forces are very keen in the Upper Egypt not to use the same level of violence they use in Cairo or Delta as we are talking here about the Wild Wild Upper Egypt !!

Akhmim's protest

The cause of this huge anger is that the governor of Sohag has banned any new burial activity in the old cemeteries beside ordering the transfer of those cemeteries from their current location at the ancient zone in the city to another new cemeteries at New Akhmim city.

As you can see in the city of Akhmim entry in Wikipedia , it is very ancient and full of historical treasures especially that there is a common belief that we know now as Akhimim is currently built upon another ancient city. It seems that the governorate sees the cemeteries have some sort of treasures  beneath them and this is why the governor issued his orders.

Now the people there are extremely angry not because they are against the transfer itself but because of the following :

1) The government will not let the people own the new cemeteries but rather it will grant them usufruct rights to the new cemetery !!!!!!!!!!!!

We Do not the other cemeteries

2) The governor has exclude the Christian cemeteries from this decision , the thing which produced a sectarian tension ended by a sad scene : People  attacked the archdiocese of Akhmim  , this is so sad but I blame the governor for all this !!

Already Sohag has the worst record of sectarian tensions between Muslims and Egyptians in the history of the country from couple of years ago. Ironically just last night regime TV hostess Lamis El-Hadidy aired an episode from Sohag to show the harmony between Muslims and Christians !!

Back to the governor and his decision , I think Mohsen El-Namai should admit his mistake and correct it quickly as much as possible before turning the matter in to a real sectarian division like the one that happened from couple of years before.

The Clash Of The Titans , The Real Clash of The Titans

Saad El-Din Ibrahim has told Al Masry Al Youm that Christiane Amanpour will end her long career in CNN before moving to ABC by hosting none other than : Mohamed ElBaradei , Ahmed Ezz and Saad El-Din Ibrahim.
Yes Mohamed ElBaradei Vs. Ahmed Ezz , the clash of the real titans. According to Ibrahim this will be the last episode of Amanpour on CNN , of course I am surprised that Amnpour will end her CNN show speaking about Egypt as the American and the Western viewers may know ElBaradei but they do not know how evil is Egyptian Chucky aka Ahmed Ezz is !!??
Anyhow I am trying to get her schedule this week to know if she is going to host these Egyptians or not , already she hosted Amr Khalid last night.
Update :
Ok boys and girls tonight is the night , Amanpour will host Ezz,ElBaradei and Ibrahim all live but it will not be a debate.
The time is 9 PM Cairo Local time and the channel is CNN and you can watch live online here.
Spread the word ,it is the show that you want to see , man I want to see the facial expression of Amanpour when she hears the words of wisdom from the mouth of Ahmed Ezz himself !!I bet it will be one hell of expression just like that expression she showed when she sat down two minutes with Marina Abramović in her current exhibition "The Artist is present" !!

Is This The Best You Can Do !!??

Here is the Egypt Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo 2010
The Egyptian Pavilion in Shanghai World Expo 2010-Reuters

Can somebody tell me how this design represents Egypt !!? With all our history and all our culture , this what will attract the visitors at the Shanghai World Expo to visit our Pavilion !!??
More than 190 countries are participating in this huge world event and this is how we will attract the visitors from all over the world not only China to visit our pavilion !! Look to other countries' pavilions and you will know what I mean.
Here is the official website of the Shanghai World Expo.
By the way , do not you wonder like me when we will host World Expo in Egypt !!??

Watch ElBaradei at Harvard Live

You can watch Dr. ElBaradei's lecture live at Harvard through this link below

Harvard University Institute of Politics - The Forum LIVE

The lecture will start at 6 PM EST which is at midnight tonight

Stay Away From Them Dr. ElBaradei

Saudi Arabia may seem to have joined Kuwait , Bahrain and UAE in the ElBaradei haters club as its authorities have blocked another ElBaradei website after its launch in less than 24 hours !!

Saudi Arabia has blocked the Egyptian association for change in the United States official website after its launch in less than 24 hours !! Before attacking Saudi Arabia and wondering why it blocked a website supporting change in Egypt where as the Egyptian regime itself has not blocked it yet !!??

Well may be there is political reason behind this and may be because there is a religious reason behind , yes religious reason could be behind it.

Well check this out :

http://www.ahl-alquran.com/eacusa/

This website is following the Quranists websites in the States.

This is the last thing Dr. ElBaradei needs in his campaign to change the constitution , already the man has suffered enough from the regime attacks that he is a secular working against Islam and Muslims so he would be associated with the Quranists !!

I hope someone pays attention to this because if the regime press knows about this , .. we know what will happen !!??

The Logan Gray Conundrum

This has been a ridiculously busy off-season for the Georgia Bulldogs. I unplugged from the world of the internet and the world of twitter to find out that our back-up quarterback Logan Gray is contemplating a transfer. This wouldn't be that big of a deal but Georgia's QB depth took a huge hit when Zach Mettenberger was kicked off the team. Last week Aaron Murray was named #1 on the depth and Logan Gray was placed at #2. With Georgia's current depth incoming freshman Hutson Mason, who won't enroll until the fall, will be #3 on the depth chart.

According to David Hale at the Bulldogs Blog Gray approached the coaches about a position change to Wide Receiver in January but was convinced to stay at quarterback and compete for the starting position. On Monday Logan met with Mark Richt and is deciding on whether he should continue his career at Georgia or transfer to another school. This leaves us with a bunch of questions. If Logan stays does he stay at back-up QB full time or does he move to Wide Receiver and become the emergency back-up QB? If he stays at QB does the Georgia coaching staff entice him stay by putting him in a D.J. Shockley type role ensuring that he plays in every game? If Logan decides to transfer then who else is going to get reps at QB? I feel for Logan because you know that he's been working hard to be the best player that he can and has been dreaming about playing for Georgia and playing QB so you know it's a hard decision for him.

Let's talk about the best case scenario first. Let's say Logan stays. If Logan stays is he going to stay solely at QB or do Richt and Bobo go ahead and get him involved in the offense in other ways (such as receiver). If he stays does Richt put in a package (that they talked about doing last year but it never came to fruition) that maxamizes Logan's skills as an athlete and get him in games for a series or two. Or does Logan solely move to receiver and Hutson Mason becomes the #2 QB with Logan serving as the emergency #3. So many questions. The one thing we know is that we play football in the SEC and the odds of a starting QB, especially a freshman, making it through a season unharmed is not likely.

That brings us to the worst case scenario which is Logan transferring. If Logan transfers then that immediately puts our current depth chart at 1 scholarship QB with Aaron Murray and a second scholarship QB in Hutson Mason coming on board in the fall. In this scenario it's clear that we need somebody else, possibly more than one person, who can step in and play QB in a pinch. Someone with Hines Ward type versatility. The guy that pops into mind immediately is Brandon Smith because he ran the Wild Dawg position last year a little bit so he could run an option read type offense. It would be really hard for a guy like Smith to do this because he's just a sophomore and he also has the task of learning new Defensive Coordinator Todd Grantham's 3-4 defense. Long-term this could make Georgia all that more intriguing for big-time recruits like Christian LeMay and Nick Marshall but short term Aaron Murray is going to be walking around campus in a bubble and have a full time security guard detail so nothing happens to him.

I will note that there is at least one source that is saying that Logan has confirmed he will transfer. It will continue to be a very interesting and now very nerve racking summer for UGA football.

Eman Beibars Is An entrepreneur !!??

As you know the Obama administration is hosting the big economic summit "Promoting Entrepreneurship in the Islamic world" as if the Muslim world did not know the meaning of entrepreneurship until Obama came and said his famous speech in Cairo !!

There are businessmen and businesswomen participating in the big event from Egypt , among them the notorious Eman Beibars whose name was engraved in my memory after what happened from harassment against protesters in 2005 , I remember that Beibars was accused among other NDPians of organizing the attacks.

Back to  the big summit in D.C , I do not know if the Obama administration is fooling itself or what as you can't have a real entrepreneurship in the Islamic world as long as it is ruled by corrupted regimes backed by the U.S administrations !!

Mark Your Calendars For The 2nd of May

1st of May is marked in our national calendar as the labor day , it is a national holiday where the president usually issues an annual presidential decree of a raise. This year the 1st of May is not that important not because it is coming on Saturday or because that raise which does not stand a chance in front of the increasing prices , it is not that important because it is 2nd of May that matters.
Mark your calendars for the 2nd of May because it is a date , a rendezvous for what it can be a history next Sunday.
If you are an Egyptian whether a blue-collar or white-collar , if you believe that it is unfair to have an official minimum wage LE35 for the past 26 years in 2010 , then please come and join other Egyptians on the 2nd May of 2010 at the sit-in and protest in front of the Egyptian Cabinet at Hussein Hegazy street. "You can see the address on the map below in the location feature"
Since 1984 the minimum wage in Egypt has been LE 35/$7 and only this year the administrative court has ordered the government to raise it and this is what many people want to raise the minimum wage in Egypt to LE1200.

It is not about blue collars but white collars in Egypt also should be there because when a teachers takes a salary of less than $100 per month then I should not expect that he will do his job as it should and this is just the tip of the ice-berg in Egypt.
Many people are going to attend this big event , yes big event from activists and also artists like : Khalid Abullah , yes the Khalid Abullah of Kite Runner , Khalid Abu Naga and Yousra El-Louzy.

You can find more videos for more activists here.
The sit in and the protest events will be aired online and you can follow that through this website : 21606

The Religious Societies : The Druze

Prophet Shoaib shrine no.2 at Tiberias
Today the Druze Arab community in Israel is celebrating the feast of Prophet Shoaib/Jethro today , some of them already claim that they are the descendants of Prophet Shoaib where they visit what they believe to be his shrine near Tiberias lake despite there is another shrine in Jordan.
It is not easy to speak about the Druze sect because simply since its founding in the middle ages in Egypt it considered secrecy as part of system becoming one of the most secret societies in history thanks to the rejection of other societies to them through time and also if we are speaking from a theological point of view , secrecy is taken from Shiite's Taqqiyya. People differ to identity the Druze as Muslim sect or as a separated religion , I believe they are more of sect that sprang from the Ismailism and due to political and geographical reasons it appears as a separate religion. Being supported by the controversial and ambiguous ruler Al-Hakim was enough
I did not know that Druze are different than Muslims or even what they are except when I read a fatwa from Dar El-Fat'a saying that a Muslim should not marry from the Druze sect except if that Druze man or woman converts , since then I tried to find more information about their beliefs and all what I find is either nothing except what it is allowed from the sect itself and what is said about them from another religions. I remember that I once read an article at Al Akhbar newspaper last year that claimed that the Ad-Darazi was the notorious tailor of crazy Al-Hakim who came from Persia and claimed the divinity of Al-Hakim leading a group of followers in to orgies !! The writer goes on says that the Egyptians were angry from both Ad-Darazi and Al-Hakim who was later by his sister's order and became the Druze's messiah where as Ad-Darazi escaped and his followers to Levant. The man claimed that Ad-Darazi comes from the word "El-Tarazi" which means a tailor !! Of course historically this story is totally proven to be wrong.
Between myth and reality , between the history and present and between religion and politics it seems that the truth about Druze can't fully be discovered easily. Al Jazeera a wonderful and rare documentary that we all should admire about about the Druze in one hour despite there is no much said about the beliefs of the sect but at least they managed to film for the first time in the world : The Druze holy book El- Mithaq.By the way El-Mithaq can't be found in libraries and even if you find it you will not understand it because it is encoded and you need to be from the Uqqal in order to decode it.
I respect and admire the Druze whether in Syria or in Lebanon but honestly I do have mixed feelings towards the Druze of Arab 48 especially that Azzam Azzam is from them.
The Religious Societies : The Druze

I also found this very old documentary about the Druze from 1970s, it is called ' Life of the Bees'  , of course its quality is not good at all but its sound quality is great.

PBS also produced a documentary episode called "Contestant No.2" in its series Wide Angle last year about an Arab Druze girl who wants to join Miss Israel beauty pageant. Of course this time you will not find neutrality like the previous two documentaries , this is the traditional progressiveness against conservatism.
It is important to know each other now and respect our differences because minorities game is still there.

Happy Sinai Liberation Day

Happy Sinai liberation day to all of us and hopefully next year insh Allah everything will be safe and Sinai continues to be our land despite all the Israeli skimps to transfer the Gazans and the Palestinian refugees in to our land for parts of the Nakab desert.

Happy Sinai liberation Day

Georgia Bulldogs picked in the 2010 NFL Draft

Despite not having any players picked in the first two rounds, the University of Georgia still had 5 players picked in the NFL draft this year.

Rennie Curran, LB, Tennessee Titans, Round 3, Pick 33

I was a little surprised to see Rennie picked before Reshad Jones and Jeff Owens but he definitely deserves it. It's a shame we can't see Rennie line up in Grantham's 3-4 but think he will fit in just fine with the Titans. ESPN blogger Paul Kuharsky compares him to undersized LBs Gary Brackett and Sam Mills. Sounds like the Titans really like him and he should start out on Special Teams with a chance to earn some playing time at LB. Before the Falcons picked Spoon I was thinking Rennie would be a really good pick for the Falcons in the 3rd, 4th or 5th round.

Geno Atkins, DL, Cincinnati Bengals, Round 4, Pick 120

I was again surprised that Atkins went before Owens. Not because Atkins doesn't deserve it but because I had actually heard that Owens was being looked at for a late first round pick at one point so I figured at minimum he would be gone by now. This looks like a good fit as the Bengals need depth at this position. I don't know if Geno will ever be a star but I think he can be a very productive guy in the right system. Tim Tucker from the AJC reported that the Bengals did not interview or work Geno out so they must have really liked what they saw on film.

Reshad Jones, S, Miami Dolphins, Round 5, Pick 163

Reshad has to be disappointed that he didn't go until the 5th round. I really wish he would have stayed around for his final year because I think Scott Lakatos could have done wonders for his game. Reshad is a guy that has a ton of talent and showed flashes of greatness but ultimately was never coached up while he was on campus. ESPN blogger Tim Graham thinks Reshad could find his way into the starting line-up as the Dolphins have some issues at Safety. The Dolphins moved up in the draft in order to get Reshad so it's clear that they like him and really valued him at this position.

Jeff Owens, DL, Philadelphia Eagles, Round 7, Pick 243

Owens falling to the seventh round was a shock to me. Owens can definitely play in the NFL. I think this one could end up being a steal for the Iggles.

Kade Weston, DL, New England Patriots, Round 7, Pick 258

I'm really happy to see Kade picked. I believed we would have 3 DL taken and I was right. Kade has to be happy that he ended up with a quality franchise like the Patriots. Hopefully he can catch on and have a successful career.

Also per his twitter account it seems that WR Michael Moore will be teaming up Matthew Stafford and try to make the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent. Mark Weiszer also noted on twitter that S Bryan Evans was signing with the Cincinnati Bengals and CB Prince Miller with the Baltimore Ravens.

Mubarak Speaks On Sinai Liberation Day

Mubarak had a busy morning earlier today. President Mubarak's annual Sinai liberation speech was aired on TV and aired but unlike every year this speech was different because it is his first speech since his return to Germany with all what is happening in Egypt.

Mubarak thanked the Egyptian people for their kind and supportive feelings during his sickness and he also reminded them that their arm forces are their protective shield as it is the custom in the Sinai liberation speech just like the 6th October speech and the the 23rd July speech !!

And because he can't ignore the elephant at the room , he hinted and reminded his follow Egyptians all what Egypt sees from political movement now is the result of his initiative in 2005 warning that the destiny of nations is not made by slogans and uncalculated steps !!!!!

Of course the last part is about Dr.ElBaradei. I want to comment on the points above :

1// We want to change his 2005 initiative

2//For 30 years and before them another 20 years we live according to slogans and uncalculated steps sending us to both wars and poverty and according to the facts and indicators that we are going down not up , I think it will not harm to move behind the slogans and uncalculated steps of ElBaradei.

You can watch the video of the speech blow and read its transcript in English has not been added to the Egypt State information website yet !!

Mubarak speech on the 24th of April 2010

I know that his voice is strange but I consider his age and the fact that he is still recovering , he most probably got flu. Of course the conspiracy theories of Dr. Ashraf Shahin have not stopped about Mubarak and some people actually believe him. I will not speculate anything because I am not sound or audio expert.

Mubarak did not only address the people on that day but as usual he visited one of the army braches but in a very short visit. He visited the second field army in Ismailia and watched a little parade that did not last for 20 minutes then he returned back to Sharm El-Sheikh. The cameras according to those who watched the whole thing on TV did not focus on him as usual not to mention it was edited.

Officially he is still recovering in Sharm.

One of Mubarak's biggest achievements is the return of Taba in his time , he has a chance , a big chance to have the greatest achievement in the modern history of Egypt by adopting democracy.

By the way Momtaz El-Kut , the big hypocrite who became the chief in editor of Akhbar Al Youm is saying that the public demand of all Egyptians is that Mubarak re-run for another presidential term !! Even if we are and we do not actually , it will be rude to ask a man in his age and his health for another 6 years so please we do not know provocation at night.

By the way Mubarak is supposedly to say another speech next week insh Allah on the 29th of April which is the labor day speech.

Another NDP MP !!

You read about Hamida and El-Kasas , you also read about El-Gol but now you will see and hear the famous NDP MP , former Police general Nabil Luka !!

This is a confrontation between Luka ,the hardliner defender of the regime and Rageb Hamida , the so-called opposition MP from one side  and Political activists  like Gamila Ismail, Janet Abdel Allim and blogger Abdel Rahman Fares in the first part of the show and American Journalist Sally Beach, Asama Abdel Mahfouz and Safaa Sultan from another side plus Sawt El-Oma Journalist Ahmed Abu Al-Khair . Janet and Fares were among the people who were abducted and abused by the police forces on the last 6th of April in a disgusting way, I did not sleep easily the night I saw Janet speaking about how she was abused by the policewomen or how the policemen took off Fares' pants.

It is not translated but you do not need a translation as the body language and his loud voice are enough to show what we are dealing with !!

Luka is a former police general as I hinted and has about 5 or 6 PHD in many different things like for instance : Islamic Sharia, Law, human rights , politics and economy !! I do not know how or when the former police general found all that time for these PHDs !!

Luka has become famous of being a NDP and regime defender when he appeared defending the ministry of interior's aggression and abuse against the Egyptian activists in 2005 and in 2006 especially after he attacked late journalist Nawal who was sexually harassed by the police offers and NDPians in the street in the infamous Press syndication staircase protest. FYI Nawal has passed last year after having cancer, her insistence to take back her rights made her lose both her job and her husband.

Luka is also remembered for his attack on Egyptian activist and journalist Abeer El-Askry who was assaulted by police from couple of years ago. Abeer has left the country and is currently lives in Canada.

Gamila , Janet , Asama , Sally and Abdel Rahman have taught Luka a lesson for real , seriously I love how Janet reminded him by Abeer and Nawal , also how Wael Al-Abrashi reminded the viewer how he acted with late Nawal May Allah bless her soul.

The show also discussed the Hamida and El-Kasass' demand to the ministry of interior to use live ammunition , of course Hamida is denying his statement attacking Sawt Al-Oma's parliament correspondent who attended the shameful session where Hamida and El-Kasass suggested their wonderful suggestion. Of course Hamida has denied the allegation claiming that the journalists fabricated his words which is untrue because all the journalists in the first 24 hours agreed that those two idiots said.

In the end you must know general Luka is accused of torturing a taxi driver till death when he was the sheriff of the Wayly police station and still till this moment nobody knows from where Rageb Hamid formed his fortune as he did not hide that he started  his life selling meat liver on a cart in the street !!

May Be He Is Your Father But Not My Father

MRS. Carmen Weinstein , the head of Cairo's Jewish community  is featured today in the second page of Al Ahram as "Carmen , the Jew who loves Egypt" . Weinstein who is always accused of taking orders from the Israeli Ambassador by Wael Al Abrashi has joined her follow Egyptians like Pope Shnouda and Dr. Mohamed Bade'e saying the following :
Mubarak is the father of all Egyptians whether Muslims or Christians or Jews.
Weinstein
Weinstein has denied any relation to Israel in the small feature praising the government pensions given to the old Egyptian Jews after retirement despite she did not mention how much these pensions are.
Besides the usual hypocrisy all religions and sects representatives must show as a sign of complete obedience to Mubarak , I believe this feature has been published to prove that Al Ahram is not anti-Semitic after what it was published about Youssef Darwish and the warning the famous and old newspaper has received from the Journalists syndication.
Back to the season of Mubarak's fatherhood to the Egyptian people , this week's issue from Sawt Al Oma we find the head of the Plymouth Brethren in Egypt says that the followers of the Church will elect Mubarak because he is father of all Egyptians !! The Plymouth Brethren according to its official portal has 265 followers in Egypt which is a very small number but still big comparing to the Egyptian Jews. FYI the Egyptian Orthodox Church does not consider them Christians by the way.

When They Tell The …To Swear

And Gamal Mubarak appears in public at last !!  Gamal Mubarak visited yesterday Mansoura , he is not less than Mohamed ElBaradei ; in fact he is more popular than ElBaradei as the NDP in Mansoura arranged a huge reception for him in the city with folk bands and dancing horses !! ElBaradei was not received by horses as I recall !!??
In a very exposed move the youth of NDP wore T-Shirts with "Welcome Gamal Mubarak and companions" !! Is this how they will compete with the stylish Mohamed ElBaradei's T-shirt !!??
Welcome Gamal by Sherif El-Dib for Youm7
Anyhow this is just the beginning of the big Gamal Mubarak's show in Mansoura , the biggest number was the oath of the NDP , yes the oath !!??
In a theatrical scene similar to the Nazi Party oath scene the NDP members led by Gamal Mubarak have sworn in front of God that they will choose the best and fair candidates in the coming elections !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all swearing in front of God is a very high oath in Islam , the highest in Islam which the Muslim should not use except in a very critical situations like being a witness in a trial where he should not lie.
Second , I believe Gamal and gang are using religion again in a very dangerous game.
Third there is a famous Egyptian proverb that says :
They told the thief to swear that he did not steal and he said to himself : I get away with it !!
Gamal spoke about his father health , the Nile river share issue and democracy as usual.
Now I heard a strange rumor that Gamal Mubarak came on a private jet that landed in a military airport !!!!  It does not matter that he came on a private jet , it is something expected from him especially that he does not take trains like the rest of us but landing at a military airport does matter , why on earth a military airport would allow a private jet to land if it were not for emergency reasons.
Anyhow GM can visit NDP HQs all over the country and the result is the same just like putting a lipstick on a pig .
