Hypocrisy And Real Science Do not meet

Dr. Mohamed El Naschie believes that the Nobel Peace Prize will be honored if Mubarak receives it !! He also reminds us in Rosa Al Youssef  how Obama ran to Mubarak on the porch of the Koba Palace !!!!!!!!!!!

I used to respect Dr. El Naschie before being shocked with his endless hypocrisy to the regime reaching to the level of writing in Rosa Al Youssef that the Nobel Peace Prize will be honored with Mubarak !! I did not understand what kind of scientist he is when he praises the Mubarak regime which does not respect science at all and forces our finest scientists to leave the country !!

It did not make sense because real scientists who still have good relations with the regime like Farouk El-Baz and Ahmed Zowail do not hide their disgust and anger with indirect criticism to the current regime for the deteriorating conditions in Egypt.

Anyhow it made sense now when I found out that Dr.El Naschie is not what he claims to be. The man has no degree in math or physics and this is just the start.

Real scientists who respect science and fight for it know how bad to live in repressive regime.

Star Jackson to Georgia State

It has been rumored for a while and I just hoped on my reader and read AJC writer Jeff Schultz blog. The Mobile Press-Register reported earlier today that Jackson will enroll at Georgia State and that he was in Atlanta this past weekend apartment hunting. Because Georgia State is an FCS school, Jackson can come in and be immediately eligible to complete his final three years of eligibility. Last year Jackson saw limited action for Alabama, because of Greg McElroy's emergence, and completed 13 of 18 passes for 116 yards in mop up duty.

Last month I wrote a column about Georgia State and their new football program, which is being headed by Bill Curry. At the time I wrote that Georgia State had 3 2-Star recruits battling it out for the starting QB job in the first year of Georgia State football. Now, they add a 4-Star recruit who rivals had listed as the #5 QB in his class (scout has him as #11 QB). We know that not every guy rated as a 4-Star recruit works out (ain't that right Willie Martinez?) but the thought of Georgia State (a first year FCS school) landing a 4-star QB recruit is a bit exciting. Jackson was #3 on Alabama's spring depth chart so he wasn't exactly tearing up Tuscaloosa. It will be interesting to see what he can do with a fresh start, less weapons, but against a lot weaker competition in the FCS.

UTEP went 2-11 in 2003 and then they turned the program over to Mike Price. Price posted back to back 8-4 seasons in his first two at UTEP and led them to bowl games. Unfortunately, they haven't had a winning season or been back to a bowl since 2005. Even though they went 4-8 last year they did beat Houston (then #12 in the Nation) 58 to 41. UTEP returns some impressive talent on the offensive side of the football but the achilles heel of the team last year was the defense. Can Price turn around the UTEP defense and be a contender in Conference USA? We caught up with Adrian from the SB Nation blog Miner Rush to find out what to expect from the 2010 UTEP Miners.

What are the major strengths and biggest weaknesses of the team?

The major strength is obviously talent at the skill positions on offense. Trevor Vittatoe is a four year starter at quarterback who will be expected to have a 3,000 yard season this fall. Donald Buckram finished fourth in the nation last year in rushing. He's a small, speed back, who has a knack for breaking tackles and runs with surprising power for his size. He has incredible vision and might be the closest thing at the college level to Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans. Kris Adams has potential to be a threat at the WR postition. His numbers weren't great last year but Miner fans expect a big year from him.

The team's greatest weakness will probably be the transition to a new defensive scheme. New defensive coordinator, Andre Patterson, is switching UTEP over from a 3-3-5 to a 4-3 attack. The Miners showed promise along the defensive line during spring and while they may be undersized as a whole, have decent depth that they will need to free up their linebacker corps led by the very talented Jeremy Springer and Royzell Smith. The team's secondary struggled immensely last year as the 3-3-5 required tons of man to man coverage. Expect a transition into more traditional zone sets to really help a team with talent maximize their potential.

Looking at the schedule who will be the first major test?

I mean no disrespect to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in week one, because as a Miner fan, we can't take any games for granted, but the first major test is definitely Houston in week 2. The Cougars came in to El Paso ranked #12 in the nation last year, fresh off wins against Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, and had legitimate BCS expectations. Then, Donald Buckram & Co. torched their defense to the tune of 58-41 and the rest of Houston's season was quite forgettable. UTEP and Houston have a history of tough games and the early season game will be huge for the C-USA West race. Andre Patterson's new defense will have to play a perfect game to slow down Case Keenum.

What team on the schedule do you fear the most?

I'm not sure Miner fans "fear" any team on the schedule right now because nobody on the schedule looks to be as good as Texas was last year and the year before. This team has played the very best competition in the country, and while the second game wasn't nearly as competitive as the first, I'm confident that the Miners can hang around with anybody on their schedule. Even Arkansas.

Who is the best player on your team that nobody talks about?

Good question and there are a lot of good players that don't get the acclaim they deserve. If I had to pick one, I'd go with TE Jonny Moore. Moore is not used in the passing game the way he probably could be, but if you watch Donald Buckram's highlights from last season, time and time again you will see Moore getting quality blocks downfield. He's a ferocious blocker and is essential to UTEP's success.

Who is the best offensive player on the team?

There are a lot of good players on the team. Rod Huntley, Vittatoe, Adams, and Alex Solot are all quality D-1 players who at the very least will be fighting for an UFA contract at some point, but the star is probably Buckram. He's one of the most entertaining players to watch in the country. End of Story.

Who is the most impactful defensive player on the team?

Linebacker Jeremy Springer is all over the field on just about every play. He's a gamer and is one of those guys that even when he doesn't make the tackle, he's probably impacted the play in a way to make the tackle easier for someone else on the team. He's a good, hard nosed football player.

What player(s) needs to step up this year in order for the team to reach it's full capability?

I can't identify one single player. I'll say it's the entire secondary. In the C-USA, with Tulsa, Houston, and other elite spread offenses littering the conference, it's essential that you have a secondary that plays tough coverage and has players that don't miss tackles that make marginal plays game changers. UTEP lost some leaders in the secondary in Cornelius Brown (now trying to make it with the Chicago Bears) and Da'Mon Cromartie Smith (now trying to make it with the Steelers). It will be interesting to see how the new guys step up and adjust to the new scheme.

Who is the top defensive newcomer that can make an impact this year?

Getting back to the secondary, the Miners expect big things from JC transfer cornerback Travaun Nixon. He has good size, 6'1-205. and displayed excellent cover ability during spring ball. He showed vast improvement from the beginning of camp to the end of camp and emerged as a guy that could be the #1 corner in the fall.

Mike Price has been the Head Coach for 6 years. He started out with 2 winning seasons and since has had 4 straight losing seasons and has not posted a winning conference record since 2005. How much pressure is he under to turn around the program and what does he need to do better to get the job done?

Finish games. The Miners lost 5 games last year by 7 points or less. Some of the losses were absolutely baffling. For example, the Miners followed their triumph against Houston with an absolutely atrocious loss to Memphis. There was no reason why the Miners should have lost to Tulane or Rice. Coach Price is beloved in El Paso but the locals need UTEP to win the ones their supposed to. With Vittatoe a senior, and with one of the best running backs in the country, anything less than a bowl game will render this season a disappointment and the pressure will rise on Coach Price.

Gut feeling on the teams final record at the end of the regular season and what makes this a successful season in your eyes?

I don't want to toss out numbers just yet, but like I said the Miners have to make a bowl game for this season to be a success. Miner fans want a winning record and with the senior talent it's justifiable to expect a bowl game this season. Anything more than 7-5 is cake for us. We want to see Trevor go out a winner and we want to see Mike Price's reputation vindicated nationally, but we understand that progress comes slowly and we are conditioned to not be greedy when it comes to expectations. Realistically, a winning record and bowl game will revive a city desperate to root for a winner.

And it has become the Israeli-Egyptian siege after all!!

I found this article by Palestinian American journalist Ahmed Moore in Huffington Post :

Breaking the Israeli-Egyptian Siege of Gaza !!!

I did  not read the article first because I kept reading the headline and trying to stop myself from crying !! Thank you President Mubarak for making Egypt accomplice in this inhuman crime.

The rest of the article as you guess blame us and considered Egypt accomplice in the siege while it is the Mubarak's regime that is accomplice.

Flotilla Follow Up : And The Freedom flotilla has won

This much more updated and comprehensive post than the first one I posted earlier.
  1. The commandos attacked happened on humanitarian vessels in international waters , the flotilla had not entered the Israeli water.
  2. The organizers had been rising White flags
  3. The commandos started to open their fires while they were going down from the helicopter.
  4. There is no clear news on what happened exactly to Sheikh Raed Salah, since the morning there has been contradicting news on what exactly happened to him.
  5. No news about the archbishop Capucci either but Nobel Prize Mairead Corrigan Maguire has been captured.
  6. There are updates from Israel except that 16 activists are detained and transferred to Beersheba and the rest will be deported to their countries after promising not to do this again !! There are rumors that Israel wants to exchange the detainees with Shalit.
  7. 3 hospitals in Ashdod , Ashkelon and Tel Aviv are in full alert just like the rest of the country .
  8. The Israeli commandos had detailed list with certain people with pictures, you can see it here
The target list from a Turkish TV
Here is a very early report from Marmar after the attack.
The target list from a Turkish TV
I do not know how the Israelis think but I believe all their plans have failed as the whole world is against them now in a rare moment , real rare moment when the ugly face of the IDF and the racism of the Israeli administration are shown to the whole world naked with no masks what so ever. Bibi had to cut his visit in Canada and return back immediately to Tel Aviv cancelling his highly anticipated meeting with Obama which to be held tomorrow. The white house has already released a press statement which is ambiguous and very diplomatic in its own way if I may say.
That operation whatever silly name the Israelis call it proved to be a big fiasco whether politically or from media point of view.  Israel is forcing the people and the world to isolate it more and more , academically many international universities and academies are boycotting Israel , many markets and trade associations are boycotting Israel and I believe more associations and groups will boycott Israel .
Now to international and regional reactions starting with Turkey which considered the attack on Marmar is an attack on the Turkish waters in Marmar sea.
The Turks are on fire , they are very extremely angry and politically all Turkish parties are against the attack of Marmar especially with the Turkish death toll. Since last time the Turks were protesting in front of the Israeli consulate after knowing that the Israelis were following the flotilla with bad intentions. It seems that they stayed till the morning when they knew what happened and tried to storm the consulate building in extreme anger. Turkey has summoned both its ambassador in Tel Aviv and the Israeli envoy in Ankara. Today there was an attack on a Turkish base at the same time the Prime minister is abroad, the President has met with the defense minister and let's say that there is a lots of jazz in Turkey.
Here is a video showing the Turks protesting in front the Israeli consulate
From Press TV : Turkish protesters try to storm Israeli consulate.
Ironically the flotilla has united for the first time Turkey and Greece as both countries decided to cancel their military exercises with Israel which were to be held in the coming months. Greece also summoned the Israeli ambassador along with almost all the European countries that have got citizens on the flotilla. There are also protests in these countries in front of the Israelis consulates and embassies.

In Egypt in a very rare scene about 600 activists and protesters gathered in front of the Foreign affairs embassy to condemn the attack including the Muslim brotherhood whom for the first time shouted against Mubarak.

There was another protest on the famous journalists syndication staircase. The Muslim brotherhood called for huge protest which starting point is El-Fatah Mosque in Ramses St. If I am not mistaken. There have been about 5 protests in 5 governorates today in the country.
Officially Mubarak in Paris has condemned the excess use of power calling and called for an end to the siege in Gaza and please do not ask me what he meant because I do not understand it at all. The arrest of two MB MPs in Israel for sure makes the NDP happy especially the Shura elections are to be held tomorrow.
The league of Arab states has condemned as usual what happened and they are going to meet tomorrow in order to discuss it. Protests are held in Lebanon ,Syria, Palestinian territories and Mauritania.
Please follow this post this post as it will be updated accordingly.

Nebraska Hodge-Podge

Rather than just blog about a formal subject, I have decided to take the hodge-podge of ideas in my head and put them to this document I am typing on currently.

-On Expansion…

-Being a Nebraska fan I feel that this is a terrible idea especially since I will have to deal with Ohio State, Michigan and (potentially) Notre Dame fans even more than I already have to. Being from Ohio I find it to be a treat that I can sit back and watch the madness of these fans as their teams blow big games, and in some cases just outright suck. The fact is, these people are among the most annoying people I have ever met in my life, and I have no doubts that I would end up throwing myself off a bridge if I were to encounter these people in an opposing manner up to two times a year at most. So for the love of all that is sacred with Nebraska this expansion can’t happen…EVER. Unless it is to the MAC or something of that nature.

-On Husker Locker Blog’s Top 30 players of the past 30 years.

-While I do agree with most of the list, the fact that Zac Taylor did not get an honorable mention astounds me for many reasons. I know there is a tendency to not like anything heavily involved with the Callahan Era, but Taylor does hold many of the passing records at Nebraska. Yes, I am aware, that you or I could have broken most of the passing records following all the years of Option, but it is more than that, he lead Nebraska to their biggest wins of the Callahan Era against Michigan in the 2006 Alamo Bowl, and the fourth quarter drive against Texas A&M the following season. I didn’t expect him to be ranked in the Top 30, but the fact he wasn’t given an honorable mention, as I said before, completely astounds me.

-On the Best player in Nebraska History?

Clearly the second person in this video...

Breaking News : And They Attacked Flotilla After all

I do not want to start my day like this but the Israeli Navy has just attacked the Gaza flotilla in its way to Gaza killing at least 10 activists , unarmed peace activists.
This so coward , so disrespectful and so uncivilized not to mention so IDF if I may say.
The Turks are extremely angry , already 9 Turks are reportedly killed in the attack. Arabs were killed also. There are 4 Egyptians in the flotilla among them a member of parliament
Here is a live stream from one the ships in the flotilla
I hope that you follow my twitter account to get the updates
Updates :
  • First of all you must know that this attack happened in international water.
  • Second and most important thing you must know that the commandos had lists with names and photos to target for certain action

  • There are 5 Egyptians participating in the flotilla among them two members of parliaments from the MB
  • The names of those Egyptians are : MP Mohamed El-Beltagy and MP Hakem Farouk , Onoussi and Akram kassab and Gamal El-Shial. The last three are living in Qatar and most probably are working with Al jazeera Channel .
  • There are four activists from Bahrain.
  • There are 14 Kuwaiti activists on the board of the flotilla , among them a member of parliament. You can find their names there.
  • There is a huge anger since early morning in Turkey especially that 9 Turks reportedly have been killed among them a member of parliament.
  • Here are a collection of videos including Al Jazeera international reports

And Al-helou Circus and liver restaurants are innocent After All !!

From couple of weeks ago Alexandria was living in terror when donkeys' heads and remains were found in one of the gardens , there was a fear that with the increase in meat price , butchers and liver restaurants would go to other alternatives than beef : Donkeys and dogs !!

That fear was the talk of the town when they found the dead donkeys' remains but thank goodness there was another suspect than the restaurants and butchers : Al-Helou Circus !!

Al-Helou Circus was in town and its major stars , the lions eat donkeys and so all fingers were on the most famous lion trainers in Egypt and probably in the Arab world : Al-Helou dynasty.

Glamorous and fearless Faten Al-Helou defended her lions and her circus

I do not feed my lions donkeys despite lions do eat donkey , my lions eat chicken everyday

She said it on air defending herself and her lions still the crime was following her till at last the police in Alex managed to solve the mysterious case and found the real motive : Feeding  lions but not circus lions but rather pet lions !! pet lions with diplomatic immunity too as it seems !!!!!!!!

It turned out an Uzbekistan embassy official , the media advisor along with an Egyptian man were keeping 8 lions in two villas in Alex near that garden where the remains of the poor donkeys were found !!

Of course they are facing several charges of raising these pets without permission and slaughtering these donkeys ..etc and the Uzbekistan embassy does not answer the phone in order to know their opinion in the involvement of their media advisor !! Already in this situation the media advisor comes to risk but he is already in legal trouble !!

What were they doing with these 8 lions !!?? Pet lions , yes I saw that heart breaking video of friendly domestic lion on YouTube but these are not one lion but rather 8 lions which eat raw donkey meat !!!

Speaking of lions , our Egyptian lions in the Zoo just like the Egyptian people are overpopulated and it seems that family planning has failed in their animal community too because there are so many cubs and old lions the Giza Zoo does not know what to do with them. I got a set of suggestions and I do not know if someone would be interested in them or not :

  1. Already our Giza Zoo is suffering from shortage in other animals and birds , why we do not exchange with other Zoos in the world !!?? We can take their overpopulated animals and birds for our lions !!??
  2. Distribute them on Zoos in Egypt , other than in Giza and Alexandria. I know for instance that Al Arish Zoo does not have a lion.
  3. We can return them to the forests of Africa !!?? Especially the old ones.

Nice suggestions but I am sure that the Zoo administration thought of them before me and found them not that interesting for some reason.

Turkish protesters try to storm Israeli consulate

Here is a video from Iranian Press TV showing both the attack on the Flotilla and the Turks' attempt to storm the Israeli Consulate.
In the first part you can see the Israeli Commandos crystal clear

ElBaradei tours old Cairo

Mohamed ElBaradei has visited this morning Old Cairo along with a group of his supporters. His group invited those who were interested to join them in their tour yesterday despite it was not Friday but rather Sunday and no one for instance like me can leave his job to tour Old Cairo , why not Friday or Saturday !!!!!!!!!

First of all I must respect his decision to be treated like any other Egyptian citizen while visiting old Cairo. He visited the famous Hanging Church , Egypt's oldest Church , Ben Ezra synagogue and Amr Ibn Al As Mosque , the first Mosque in Egypt. I do not know if the choice of these locations has a specific message.

Here is a video from the Daily News Egypt

ElBaradei tours old Cairo by Daily News Egypt

And also nice photos for ElBaradei visiting our religious complex in Old Cairo, I want to visit this place someday . The photos are from AP and also from ElBaradei official Facebook

I hope that the future visits ElBaradei will not only visit touristic and historical attractions , I hope that he will visits the hospitals , the markets, the bakeries , I hope he takes trains when he goes to Aswan and Alexandria and even sits with the people in the third degree because there he will meet the real Egyptians whom he needs their support in his quest.

ElBaradei had a very interesting interview with German Qantara website which I highly recommend you to read till the end. I love how he referred to his age when he was asked about Presidency , of course it is indirect message to Mubarak who still believes that he will be in his place till 2013 to head that summit in France.

I support the call of Dr. ElBaradei's for change 100% but I wish he becomes a little bit more aggressive against that regime.

Bowl Prediction:

Oregon has had a wild ride lately but to their credit they weathered the storm last year and won the conference by posting an 8-1 Pac-10 record. Oregon had one of the best offenses in the Pac-10 last year and were in the Top 10 in the Nation in scoring and rushing. How will they fare in Chip Kelly's 2nd year at the helm? We caught up with David from Addicted To Quack to learn more about Oregon football.

What are the major strengths and biggest weaknesses of the team?

The obvious strength, and what Oregon has been known for since Chip Kelly took over the offense, is that we are going to run the ball.  A lot.  The whole offensive line is back.  LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner are back (and we’ll bring in 5* running back Lache Seastrunk to boot).  But maybe less talked about is how good the defense is.  This isn’t LSU or Florida where there are potential all-Americans at every position, but Oregon was the best defense in the Pac-10 by pretty much every metric last season, and that was with massive injuries to the secondary. Losing Will Tukuafu and Blake Ferras on the defensive line will hurt, but those are the only two major losses on defense (the secondary is more than deep enough that we won’t feel the loss of TJ Ward), and new DE Dion Jordan tore up spring camp.  This is a team that returns almost every  starter from a Rose Bowl team. Its pretty loaded.

The major weakness of this team at this point is the quarterback position. With Jeremiah Masoli suspended for the season, either senior Nate Costa (who won the job a couple of years ago before an ACL injury) or sophomore Darron Thomas will get the job. Neither of those QBs have a ton of game experience, but both are very talented. Costa is probably safer, but Thomas is more talented and the higher risk/reward type player. Regardless, our ability to run the read option will be somewhat compromised. That said, Masoli did not have the strongest and most consistent arm, and the hope is that we can make up for whatever is lost with Masoli’s running ability with an improved passing game.

Looking at the schedule who will be the first major test?

We open up with New Mexico, which may be one of the worst teams in Division 1 football.  But our second game is a road trip to Knoxville, Tennessee.  And while Tennessee may be down, they are still an SEC team with SEC talent, and going into Neyland Stadium in front of 100k+ is never an easy task. Tennessee has a myriad of problems—new coach, new quarterback, etc., and I fully expect the Ducks to go into Neyland and take care of business. But its definitely a game where if you don’t bring it, you’ll get knocked off.

What team on the schedule do you fear the most?

Fear? We’re Oregon.  We don’t fear anybody.  Now, there are teams that are talented enough to beat you. And USC is still the most talented team in this league. Therefore, if I had to put money on somebody beating the Ducks, that road trip down to LA would be my bet. They are loaded at every position, and we haven’t played terribly well there in quite some time. Playing Oregon State in Corvallis is no easy task, either, and they will be aiming for us as we’ve knocked them out of the Rose Bowl two years running.  We respect those teams very much. But we fear no one.

Who is the best player on your team that nobody talks about?

I’m going to give credit to the offensive line right here.  They were a much maligned, jumbled, and inexperienced unit going into last year, which was painfully obvious in the Boise State debacle.  But that group really gelled as the season went on, developing into the best line in the conference.  With this whole unit back, there should be no shortage of holes for LaMichael James to run through.

Who is the best offensive player on the team?

LaMichael James.  Ran for over 1500 yards as a freshman.  Was also one of the fastest sprinters in the Pac-10 this season for the track team.   This team is full of great players.  James is the star.

Who is the most impactful defensive player on the team?

That’s hard to say, because the defensive system is designed so that everyone has to work together.  The best defensive player is probably safety John Boyett, who can make plays all over the field.  But the most impactful is probably Kenny Rowe, pass rush extraordinaire.  11 sacks speaks for itself.  He puts a ton of pressure on the QB and puts everyone else in position to make plays.

What player(s) needs to step up this year in order for the team to reach it's full capability?

It has to be the quarterback.  This offense should once again be amazing, but we have to have consistent play at that position.

Who is the top offensive newcomer that can make an impact this year?

There are two guys that I’ll talk about here, and both could pay huge dividends in the receiving game.  Redshirt freshman Diante Jackson was injured for a lot of spring, but he was maybe our most heralded recruit last season and at 6’2”, is the kind of big target that we missed in our passing game last year.  Also, JUCO transfer Brandon Williams will see a lot of time at tight end.  He’s a big dude at 6’4” and really had a fantastic spring.  Both of those weapons should make the passing game much more dynamic this season.

Who is the top defensive newcomer that can make an impact this year?

I think I mentioned earlier that we lost a couple of guys on the defensive line, and that the returning players are a bit small? Freshman Ricky Heimuli comes in next fall. He is Oregon’s most highly touted D-line recruit since Haloti Ngata, and at 6’4” and nearly 300 pounds, could be the big stuffer up the middle that we’ve been looking for.

Gut feeling on the teams final record at the end of the regular season and what makes this a successful season in your eyes?

This should be another very good season.  Its probably the most talented squad Oregon has ever had. The biggest problem I see is that the schedule doesn’t align as nicely as it did last season, as we have to go to USC, to Berkeley, and to Corvallis. I think we roll through our fairly mediocre non-conference schedule but, realistically, its going to be tough to make it through the conference schedule without probably two losses.  So I say a 10-2 regular season.  In an average Pac-10 year, that’s probably enough to win the league and get Oregon back to Pasadena. 11 wins very possible, but would be quite surprising. In my mind, 10 regular season wins is a success. Less than that is a disappointment with this group.

Be Our Guests

I read this post by Khadija Sharife at the Globe and Mail online where she criticizes and attacks the Mubarak regime as expected and there is a small part that stopped which I want to share with you :

It came as no surprise then, when Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak advised Israel to reject Qatar’s offer of reconstructing the Gaza Strip in exchange for Israeli recognition of Qatar’s political weight in the Middle East. But in doing so, Mubarak Inc revealed the regime’s vulnerability as a “sub-imperial” power already in decline. Simply put, Egypt’s draconian state cannot survive Qatar’s proposal — normalising free movement of goods and material through Gazan borders religiously sealed by Egypt: Mubarak’s regime depends on it.

First of all why does Qatar need the Israeli recognition for its political weight ??

Real regional countries with real political weight do not need recognition of anyone , they impose themselves as regional powers just like Turkey and even like Brazil which imposed itself in the region with the Iranian Nuke deal.

Look I am tired from that sort of talk that Qatar wants to take over Egypt's role and how jealous the prince of Qatar from Egypt and Mubarak …etc to the end of this talk and honestly I invite whoever wants to take our role to take it , be our guest !!

Yes we are moving from bad to worse but I do not think that the Egypt as regional power will be replaced so easily by a newly regional political power like Qatar and this is why I do not understand why there is huge fear that it would take our place in the region. Already the regime through its media showed several times that Egypt has suffered enough from its regional power position which made it lose a lot from their point of view , so what is the harm of taking a little rest and back again to the arena when we are strong !!??

The prince of Qatar is not angelic nationalist as portrayed , do not believe the crocodile tears of a man that hosts foreign army bases in his country and asks a country like Israel to recognize his country as a regional power.

Between Ganz' Egypt And The Bulaq Crazes' Egypt

GanZ aka Ahmed Ganzouri , a name most Egyptians from the middle and low class ignore despite they have been introduced to him briefly in the new Melody Drama advertising campaign where as it is a well known name in the high A Class ; Ganzouri aka GanZ is an event planner and restaurants owner whose parties are the talk of the "A Class" towns for many years now.
There is no monthly lifestyle A Class magazine like Enigma , Cleo and Lounge without two page spread covering his events on a monthly basis whether it is the opening of his restaurant chain he shares "he is a partner in Wabi Sabi Sushi " or his extravagant events and companies or  outrageous parties he organizes in Sharm El-Sheikh or in Cairo. A constant face with a flamboyant style that you will wonder if he lives in the same Egypt like those workers who slept for 45 days in the street or those villages with no water or electricity access still living in the 1940s !!
When you see the pictures and videos of his wild parties , you will wonder how the world consider Egyptians close minded conservative homophobic with all the gays , transsexuals and strippers he brings in his parties with no big NO from the Vice police . I do not know our laws that much but there is a considerable indecent exposure in his parties which violates our public moral law and our artistic works law.
Here is a video from his latest from parties "Circus 2010" {NSFW}
Circus 2010 {NSFW}
On the other side of the town ,in the poor side of the town there is a small dancing troupe of young men which dances in the working low class wedding parties in Cairo that are held in the street where you can drugs , hot beer and men shaking their butts like women ; that dancing troupe is called "The Bulaq Al-Dakror Crazies" as I know from the YouTube Videos and they are one of the dancing troupes in the low classes weddings that usual dismayed by the Middle and Upper Classes for dancing indecently like women. The first video to catch my attention towards these troupe was that video Arabawy posted its link as a sign of violence in the society ; when I looked to the related videos section and found a video under the title "The Bulaq Dakror crazies" , curiosity made me click and introduced me to these lost boys in their own ways.
When I saw them , first I was shocked by how those kids danced in that way but then I began to see they are a natural product of their society.
Here are couple of videos for the Bulaq Crazies, I am sorry for the bad quality , most of these videos were shot by a mobile phone.
Dancing in their pants
Crazy Ruby
Crazy Ruby is underage dancer as you can see like the most of the troupe, they are not dancing in Weddings but also in any happy occasion in the block , they are the kids from the block who dance on their club music. The Crazies troupe is not considered a strong famous local traditional troupe like the one that accompanies Saad El-Saghair and similar singers , they are much younger as you can see and their music is mix of traditional balady music and a little bit of club music , their movements are a mix of what they see in foreign music video and their own culture.
Unlike Ganzouri and his class these kids dance in this way in order to get money for them and their families unlike the GanZ' class which is not tired at earning its living at.
GanZ' Egypt is totally another different from the Bulaq's Crazies' Egypt ; two Egypts and between them another Egypt of the Middle class Egypt that is trapped between those two.

Al Wafd Party's Elections : It is too Good to be true

El Wafd party has a new chairman, businessman ElSayed El Badawy Shehata who owns Hayat TV Network and Sigma Pharmaceutical according to the elections that were held last Friday in the party's HQ in Giza after a strong media battle with Mahmoud Abaza , the ex-chairman.
These elections are considered as a breakthrough in partisan life in Egypt as just the majority party the official parties believe that till death do us apart when it comes to its chairman.
The big blow to Abaza if I may say is the return of ElBaradei when he stood against the Young Wafd members who wanted to invite ElBaradei to join them before knowing his opinion in parties now adding more cracks in the famous liberal party. There is a huge hope that Shehata will restore the old glory of El Wafd which has lost a lot of its popularity in the street in time of Abaza.
Shehata and Abaza
But let's be realistic here there is no hope for Shehata and his party to regain past glory as long as the current parties law is effective , there is no hope for Shehata and his party to regain past popularity in the street as long as his channels proudly show Gamal Mubarak golden moments of joy when we won the CAN Cup 2010 in the promos of Hayat Today show
The winner from this election was Mona El-Shazely who presented the first real news professional debate between Abaza and Shehata last Tuesday , it was a great experience both viewers and journalists enjoyed and wondered if one day we will have a real debate between real parties.
I wish that Al Wafd returns back as it used to be in time of Saad Pasha and chooses the people over power , already I fear that in time of Shehata , it will be the real Neo Landlords party as all the big businessmen like Saleh Diab are going back to it ; in fact I read that Ramy Lakah is thinking of joining it !!
Anyhow good luck to Shehata and Al Wafd , it will not hurt to have a powerful opposition party to stand against the regime officially.
Here is what was the best in that partisan election : 10 PM's special debate between El Siyad El-Badawy Shehata and Mahmoud Abaza

Do Not Damn The Dam

This is a very old newsreel showing the commence of high dam construction works , you can see late President Nasser of Egypt and King Mohamed V of Morocco as a guest of honor. "From British Pathe Archives"

WORK COMMENCES ON THE ASWAN HIGH DAM

Of course we can't remember these days now and I bet some of the anti-Nasser camp will say that we should not have built that dam which saved us from a whole decade of droughts and deadly floods we can't imagine because we are very lucky , well we were very lucky . Already historically Adrian Daninos had proposed the high dam project to the government pre-1952 which refused its project as it seemed to huge too implement and crazy then,w hat will be those haters' reaction if it were built by the orders of his majesty king Farouk of Egypt and Sudan; here I am speaking about the "We hate the Dam coz it is a Nasser's achievement" not about the serious experts who oppose the high dam for its cons.
I believe the high dam is not fully used by us so we can get benefit from , we still have villages with no water nor electricity access at all , the basis elements of living in any country. For 3 decades sewage has been using for irrigation in Egypt and the ministry of agriculture along with the regime kept watching. The dam built to improve and upgrade life conditions in Egypt but all those years the regime regardless of the president did not adopt policies to do so , the welfare of the citizen and the country has not been the number no.1 priority I am afraid at least in the last years of the country.
I still believe we can solve cons of the high dam if we as citizens want to ,we can form a public committee from scientists ,experts and ecologists to search for solutions ; it is never too late to do anything. That committee can use the new media to deliver its message and force the regime in to its findings. This is not a romantic dream but rather a suggestion for whoever interested and God is my witness.
The dam may save us if we want to save ourselves too , we should not waste the water of the Nile saved by the dam , we should start to construct real eco-friendly water infrastructure in the villages with no water access in the first place , we should cut off the water from all those fancy useless swimming pools in the North Coast and new communities in 6th of October governorate and the 5th Compound not to mention the Orabi Palaces city !!  We must demand the government to start recycling grey water for irrigation and the reclamation of the desert starting from Sinai , the old plan of Sadat which for some reason was forgotten.
Do not blame the dam or its builders but blame the regime which does not plan for tomorrow and for once start to act.

Follow Gaza Freedom Flotilla live

You can watch the progress of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla live below here. Up till the moment of writing down these lines the flotilla has not reached yet to Gaza despite its arrival is expected today.

Israel is receiving the flotilla in its own way as usual by sending its navy forces to cut an attempt for breaking the siege.

Now in Egypt there is no news on the preparations in Al Arish despite it was announced from couple of days ago that Egypt will welcome the flotilla !! Anyhow Hamas' Ismail Hania said in passionate speech that Turkey is leading a change in the regional balances !! There is no need to guess what he meant.

1967 memories : the personal victories and defeats

the anniversary of the six days war is on doors and the usual Karbala actions of self crucifixion and blame will hit the Arab world from the Gulf to the ocean. It is frustrating when I look to it now as some Arab brothers are insisting on living the illusion that the IDF is the invincible army and that we can't restore our lost 1967 land whether through war or peace. In Egypt I believe we learnt our lesson very well as people and as an army too , we restore our land through war and peace thanks to the Yom Kippur war but still remember the defeat in 1967.

Anyhow aside of this introduction I want to share you the personal memories of Amira Nowaira at the Guardian's CIF. Nowaira is former chairperson of the department of English at Alexandria University and is currently professor of English literature in the same department. She wrote her personal memories as a teenage girl in June 1967 and what she wrote is exactly what my family used to tell me about how the people received the news of the defeat and how the people used to mock and even attack the army men return from the defeated front which had become the invaded front forcing the army to issue an order to bar its men from wearing uniforms for quite some time and forcing the defeated pharaoh Nasser to ask people to stop mocking their men.

The 1967 defeat according to the revolution generation was the breaking point in their way of thinking and their beliefs about the nation , it is undisputed truth according to all those I met , all those who woke up from a great dream some consider an illusion on a fearful reality and continued to live in it. That generation knew that dictatorship was what brought to us this huge horrible defeat and yet when the turn on this generation came to rule , it continued to support dictatorship leaving us a defeat that is even greater than a loss of land !!

And like every year this is just the start of our modern Karbala celebration !!

In 2008 Washington hit the lowest of lows by posting a 0-12 record and getting drubbed by USC 56-0. First year coach Steve Sarkisian led the Huskies to a 5 game turnaround including a win over USC. This is Jake Locker's final year at Washington before he turns over the reigns to a new QB (possibly Nick Montana). Can the Huskies make enough improvement this year to garner a bowl bid? Anthony from the UW Dawg Pound gives us his take on the 2010 Washington Huskies.

What are the major strengths and biggest weaknesses of the team?

The team's biggest strength is on the offensive side of the ball. Every skill player is back, most notably quarterback Jake Locker who many said could have been a first round pick if he had left after last season. He had a great year last year, and most feel that he'll take another big step forward in year two under Steve Sarkisian. Joining Locker in the backfield is Chris Polk, who last season set the UW's freshman record for rushing yardage, so the Husky offense should be pretty balanced.

The team's weakness lies in the play of the lines on both sides of the ball, but I'd say the D line is a bigger question mark. The team will be trying to replace DE Daniel Teo-Nesheim, a 3rd round pick who graduated as the program's all time leader in sacks, and even with him the line struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks with any sort of consistency. Add in the arrest and suspension of Andru Pulu (who was expected to compete for a starting spot) and the defensive line, particularly DE, is the team's biggest worry.

Looking at the schedule who will be the first major test and why?

Opening on the road is never easy, and this season UW has to go to Provo to take on a pretty good BYU team on the first weekend. It's going to be a game with a lot of storylines: BYU true freshman Jake Heaps could potentially start at QB, he's from the Seattle area and was heavily recruited by the Huskies, Washington coach Steve Sarkisian will be making a homecoming to BYU where he played for two seasons, and Jake Locker will be looking for revenge after losing two years ago to BYU 21-20 when an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was thrown on him for tossing the ball behind his head after scoring a touchdown. Should be an exciting game that sets the tone for the season.

What team on the schedule do you fear the most?

I'm tempted to say Nebraska, but since they have to come to Husky stadium, I'd say Oregon worries me more. For the better part of a decade they've been giving the Huskies fits with their spread offense; the Dawgs just haven't had the personnel on defense to keep up with it, and I'm not confident this season will be much different. Add in the trip to Eugene to play in Autzen Stadium, and that right now looks like the toughest game on the schedule.

Who is the best player on your team that nobody talks about?

Desmond Trufant. He's the younger brother of Seahawks corner Marcus Trufant, and he'll be a true sophomore this year. Last season he missed some of fall camp due to an NCAA Clearinghouse issue (if I remember correctly, they didn't count a sign language class he took in high school) which set him back a bit, but by mid-season he was starting and was arguably the secondary's best player. He made a ton of plays all over the field last season. Despite his youth, he may be among the Pac-10's best corners this season, and who knows, with continued development he could end up being a first round pick just like his big brother.

Who is the best offensive player on the team?

Jake Locker, and nobody else is close. If you've seen him play, you know what a freak athlete he is. Some called him the Tim Tebow of the west coast, which might be somewhat of an insult to Jake. He's that good. As a freshman he set the conference record for rushing yards from the quarterback position, and he's rumored to have 4.4 speed. I'm always skeptical when people say things like that, but one thing is clear regardless of stopwatch times: when Locker takes off running, he makes defenders look like they're running in quicksand. The coaching staff was learning how best to use Locker's talents, but figured it out at the end of the year, closing the season with victories over Cal and Washington State by a combined 72-10, where Locker threw for 444 yards and 4 touchdowns while rushing for 171 yards and another 3 touchdowns. He's among the most dangerous players in all of college football.

Who is the most impactful defensive player on the team?

Maybe Mason Foster. He had a big season last year at linebacker, and will be counted on to be a leader this year.

What player(s) needs to step up this year in order for the team to reach it's full capability?

The offensive line collectively. Poor line play cost this team a couple games last year. People may remember the Notre Dame game, where the Huskies had something like 11 plays from the 1 yard line and couldn't get enough push to score touchdowns. The coaching staff has been experimenting moving players around on the line to try and find the right formula, and if they can do that this offense can be really good. The rest of the pieces are there.

Who is the top offensive newcomer that can make an impact this year?

This is going to have to be split between two players: Deontae Cooper and Jesse Callier. They're going to be true freshmen this year, and have had nothing but rave reviews since they stepped on campus (both enrolled early for spring ball). They were the number 1 and number 2 running backs in California in terms of yardage their senior year of high school and the coaching staff really feels like they stole a couple gems away from the likes of USC and UCLA. With Chris Polk having surgery and sitting out this spring, they split the lions share of the carries and showed that they're going to be ready to step in as backup RBs from the first game.

Who is the top defensive newcomer that can make an impact this year?

A kid by the name of Will Shamburger took a lot of people by surprise in spring ball and worked his way into contention for a starting safety spot. He kind of came out of nowhere after sitting out last year with an injury, but will likely end up seeing a ton of playing time this year as a redshirt freshman.

Gut feeling on the teams final record at the end of the regular season and what makes this a successful season in your eyes?

The season will be successful if the team reaches a bowl game. Fewer than six wins will not be well received. The schedule is really tough this year, with most of the hardest games coming on the road, and since the Pac-10 plays an unbalanced schedule, this is the year that the Huskies have to play 5 conference road games. The Huskies have to travel to BYU, USC, Arizona, Oregon, and Cal, then finish up by going to Pullman to play Washington State in December for a rivalry game. Not fun. But there's enough talent on the roster that every game is winnable, and I think that when the regular season is said and done Washington is a 7-5 team, getting ready for a bowl game

Thanks to Egyptian Chronicles readers I found the recorders Dr. Usama Zaghloul in Hudson county jail , here it is.

Now these are the charges he is being accused of :

  1. Endangering Welfare of Children "2C:24-4"
  2. Abuse of Child {Neglect and Cruelty} "9:6-3"
  3. Sexual assault " 2C:14-2B"
  4. Aggravated sexual assault " 2C:14-2A"
  5. Terrorist threat charges "2C:12-3"

According to the second charge , he was accused of child abuse in specific neglect and cruelty and according to the description of the neglect charge he must have a custody of a certain child in front of the state

The third charge , sexual assault is a second degree crime with a maximum penalty up to 10 years in jail. Sexual assault is the legal term for rape in New Jersey and indicates a sexual penetration. The victim should be related to the accuser whether professionally or occupationally or custodian relations. He is being accused of raping a victim that is less than 13 years old.

The fourth charge , aggravated sexual assault the accuser should be related to the victim or has official has supervisory or disciplinary power over the victim. The penalty of the fourth charge is a first degree crime under the New Jersey law with a maximum penalty up to 20 years in jail.

Did he marry and have a family in the States without his family's knowledge !!?? The only son he has according to our knowledge is in Cairo and has never visited the States nor did he see his dad since he was a baby for once in person !! Did he marry in the States some woman with a child !!??

He was accused 6 times of terroristic threats charges and in New Jersey these charges are common and grave , he needs to have a lawyer

A good question asked by the readers in my previous post : Why have not we hear about this crime in the mainstream media especially with the Mid Eastern roots of Zaghloul !!??
